Game Crashes On "Checking Patches" Screen After December 11th. Major Patch
Some players report that Borderlands 4 is crashing immediately on launch after the installation of the December 11th Major Update. This crash scenario is not specific to one system and can present in various ways, depending on your platform:
- Steam & Epic Games: The game crashes on launch and displays an "Exception Access Violation" error message.
- PlayStation 5: The game will crash and display the 'CE-108255-1' error message upon starting the title.
- Xbox Series S or Series X: The title crashes directly to the dashboard with no error message after launching the game.
Workaround: Some examples of this crash are tied to corrupted save data. PC players may have some luck disabling Steam Cloud Saves and moving each save file out of the local file directory one at a time before attempting to start the game.
